‘I’ve reached the end of my tolerance for this as a human’

Trigger warning.

Iman al-Obeidi is courage personified. She stormed a restaurant at the Rixos hotel in Tripoli where a lot of foreign journalists were gathered last week and testified that Q troops had detained her a checkpoint, tied her up, abused her, then led her away to be gang raped. Check out this interview with Anderson Cooper:

According to HuffPo:

Government spokesman Moussa Ibrahim originally said that investigators told him al-Obeidi was drunk and seemed to be suffering mentally, but he retreated from that position later Saturday. He said she was in safe custody and her claims were being investigated but as a criminal, not a political case.

It’s hard to express my deep sense of solidarity with this fierce woman right now. She truly represents a spirit that I know lives in all of us, but rarely emerges in such powerful and inspiring ways. Thank you for your example, Iman al-Obeidi.
